Δυστυχώς για δεύτερη συνεχόμενη χρονιά το Patmos Cinema Festival αναβάλλεται “επ’ αόριστον” λόγω έξαρσης της πανδημίας με ξαφνική απόφαση του Δήμου Πάτμου ελάχιστες ημέρες πριν την έναρξή του.
Η ολιγομελής ομάδα παραγωγής του Patmos Cinema Festival προσπάθησε να φανεί συνεπής προς τις επιταγές του Δήμου Πάτμου και των δημόσιων φορέων που ως συν διοργανωτές ή χορηγοί ενεπλάκησαν στο φεστιβάλ. Προσπαθήσαμε, και ολοκληρώσαμε, τις πολλές γραφειοκρατικές διαδικασίες στην ώρα τους ενώ την ίδια στιγμή προσπαθούσαμε να οργανώσουμε ένα διαφορετικό φεστιβάλ που θα βασιζόταν στην ευρεία κοινωνική συμμετοχή.
Η λύπη για τον “ξαφνικό θάνατο” μετριάζεται από την στήριξη που λαμβάνουμε από φορείς και ιδιώτες.
Ευχαριστούμε για την στήριξη όλους τους ανθρώπους του κινηματογράφου που μας εμπιστεύθηκαν τις δημιουργίες τους και που θα μας τιμούσαν με την παρουσία τους καθώς και με Q&A και masterclasses.
Ευχαριστούμε του δημόσιους φορείς και ιδιώτες χορηγούς μας: Την Γενική Γραμματεία Νησιωτικής Πολιτικής, την Περιφέρεια Νοτίου Αιγαίου, το Ελληνικό Κέντρο Κινηματογράφου, το Υπουργείο Πολιτισμού, τον ΕΟΤ, το Ίδρυμα Σταύρος Νιάρχος. Την Αθηναϊκή Ζυθοποιεία για την άμεση ολοκλήρωση των διαδικασιών, το Patoinos Winnery, το George’s Place, το Patmos Aktis και το Skala Hotel που ανταποκρίθηκαν στο κάλεσμά μας, την Blue Star Ferries. Ιδιαίτερα ευχαριστούμε το Φεστιβάλ Ντοκιμαντέρ Πελοποννήσου για την γόνιμη συνεργασία. Ο κατάλογος των θετικών φωνών μεγάλος και σίγουρα ξεχνάμε κάποιους. Θα γίνει update.
To κόστος ενός δεύτερου συνεχόμενου “ξαφνικού θανάτου” είναι πολύ μεγάλο και γι αυτό η ομάδα του Patmos Cinema Festival θα απέχει στο μέλλον από συν- διοργανώσεις πολιτιστικών δράσεων με επίσημους φορείς που δεν κατανοούν το όραμά μας και που κάποιες φορές αδυνατούν να υλοποιήσουν τις αποφάσεις που οι ίδιοι παίρνουν.
Το Patmos Cinema Festival ήθελε να απλώσει τις δράσεις του σε όλη την διάρκεια του χρόνου. Στα άμεσα σχέδιά μας ήταν η διοργάνωση ενός documenatry workshop τον χειμώνα που θα οδηγούσε στην ολοκλήρωση ενός ντοκιμαντέρ φτιαγμένου από νέους ανθρώπους της Πάτμου. Αυτή την στιγμή θεωρούμε πως το έδαφος δεν είναι εύφορο γι αυτές τις δραστηριότητες.
Ζητάμε συγνώμη από όλους τους υποστηρικτές και τους χορηγούς μας. Η συνεργασία δεν ευoδώθηκε αλλά σίγουρα θα συναντηθούμε σε άλλο χρόνο και τόπο, όταν οι συνθήκες θα είναι κατάλληλες.

8 September 2021 / Cancelation Update
Unfortunately for the second consecutive year the Patmos Cinema Festival is postponed “indefinitely” due to the outbreak of the pandemic after a sudden decision of the Municipality of Patmos a few days before its start.
The small production team of Patmos Cinema Festival tried to appear consistent with the requirements of the Municipality of Patmos and the public bodies that as co-organizers or sponsors were involved in the festival. We tried, and completed, the many bureaucratic procedures on time while at the same time trying to organize a different festival based on broad social participation.
The grief for the “sudden death” is mitigated by the support we receive from institutions and individuals.
We thank for the support all the “cinema people” who trusted us with their creations and who would honor us with their presence as well as with Q&A’s and masterclasses.
We thank our public bodies and private sponsors: the General Secretariat of Island Policy, the South Aegean Region, the Hellenic Cinema Center, the Ministry of Culture, EOT, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. “Athinaiki Zythopoiia” for the immediate completion of the procedures, Patoinos Winnery, George’s Place, Patmos Aktis and Skala Hotel that responded to our call, Blue Star Ferries. We especially thank the Peloponnese Documentary Festival for the fruitful cooperation. The list of positive voices is long and we certainly forget some. There will be an update.
The cost of a second consecutive “sudden death” is very high and that is why the Patmos Cinema Festival team will in the future refrain from co-organizing cultural activities with official bodies that do not understand our vision and that sometimes fail to implement the decisions that they get themselves.
The Patmos Cinema Festival wanted to expand its activities throughout the year. Our immediate plans were to organize a documenatry workshop in the winter that would lead to the completion of a documentary made by young people of Patmos. At the moment we consider that the soil is not fertile for these activities.
We apologize to all our supporters and sponsors. The cooperation did not work out but we will definitely meet at another time and place, when the conditions are right.

25 August 2021 Update
The First Patmos Cinema Festival (PCF 2021) will take place during the first days of September 2021. Its basic principle is the creative and equivalent participation of the local community in the implementation of the festival activities.
The screenings in the summer cinema of the Patmos Cultural Center will be accompanied by parallel actions in various open spaces of Patmos.
Any official directive regarding the safe conduct of cultural events will be considered.
September 16 Update
When at the beginning of July 2020 we were assigned by the Municipality of Patmos the artistic direction of the film festival, everything showed that the threat of Covid19 was in recession. Our weapon against the fear and inaction caused by the pandemic was the planning of cultural activities. We had foreseen the possibility of postponement or cancellation in case of recurrence.
In less than two months we made a strange and nice trip.
The support of the film circuit was immediate, as was Patmia’s response to the creation of volunteer groups.
Together we put together a very beautiful screening program consisting of 24 feature films, 8 documentaries and about 30 short films (a number that will be finalized on 25/8 when the evaluation of the approximately 1,800 films that came from almost every corner of the earth will be completed. ).
On 17/8/2020 the Cultural Center of the Municipality of Patmos took the difficult but correct decision to cancel all cultural events of the summer of 2020, including the 1st Film Festival (2-7 September 2020).
Many helped. We owe them. Steve Krikris for his advice. Directors Dimitris Bavellas and Simos Korexenidis for their motivation and suggestions. Our first sponsors Blue Star & Cinobo. The International Documentary Festival of Peloponnese and Gina Petropoulou who helped with her experience and provided for screening the award-winning films of DFNP 2019. The directors and producers who gave us their films. Katerina Efthimiou and Lamprini Papadimitriou for their involvement in the organization of their production and especially the Patmian volunteers who will surely make a very nice festival in the future.
We thank the Municipality of Patmos for entrusting us and the Cultural Center of the Municipality of Patmos that will be a companion in the journey that is now beginning. It will continue even if we are forced to do so in small and careful steps due to difficulties. The virus will weaken at some point and the steps will become bigger.

Ενημέρωση / Covid19
Σήμερα, στις 17/8/2020 το Πνευματικό Κέντρο Δήμου Πάτμου έλαβε τη δύσκολη αλλά σωστή απόφαση για τη ματαίωση όλων των πολιτιστικών εκδηλώσεων, συμπεριλαμβανομένου και του 1ου Φεστιβάλ Κινηματογράφου (2-7 Σεπτεμβρίου 2020).
Όταν στις αρχές του Ιουλίου μας ανατέθηκε από τον Δήμο Πάτμου η καλλιτεχνική διεύθυνση του φεστιβάλ κινηματογράφου όλα έδειχναν ότι η απειλή του Covid19 βρισκόταν σε ύφεση. Το όπλο μας απέναντι στον φόβο και την αδράνεια που προκλήθηκαν από την πανδημία ήταν ο προγραμματισμός των πολιτιστικών δράσεων. Είχαμε προβλέψει την πιθανότητα αναβολής ή ακύρωσης σε περίπτωση υποτροπιασμού.
Μέσα από λιγότερο από δύο μήνες κάναμε ένα περίεργο κι ωραίο ταξίδι.
Η υποστήριξη του κινηματογραφικού κυκλώματος ήταν άμεση όπως και η ανταπόκριση των Πατμιών στην δημιουργία των ομάδων εθελοντών.
Όλοι μαζί συνθέσαμε ένα πολύ όμορφο πρόγραμμα προβολών που αποτελείται από 24 ταινίες μεγάλου μήκους, 8 ντοκιμαντέρ και 30 περίπου ταινίες μικρού μήκους (αριθμός που θα οριστικοποιηθεί στις 25/8 που θα ολοκληρωθεί η αξιολόγηση των περίπου 1.800 ταινιών που ήρθαν από σχεδόν κάθε άκρη της γης).
Πολλοί βοήθησαν. Ευχαριστούμε τον Στηβ Κρικρή για τις συμβουλές του. Τους σκηνοθέτες Δημήτρη Μπαβέλλα και Σίμο Κορεξενίδη για την εμψύχωση και τις προτάσεις τους. Τους πρώτους χορηγούς μας Blue Star & Cinobo. Το Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Νοτκιμαντέρ Πελοποννήσου και την Τζίνα Πετροπούλου που βοήθησε με την εμπειρία της και παραχώρησε για προβολή τις βραβευμένες ταινίες του ΔΦΝΠ 2019. Τους σκηνοθέτες και παραγωγούς που μας έδωσαν τις ταινίες τους. Την Κατερίνα Ευθυμίου και την Λαμπρινή Παπαδημητρίου για την εμπλοκή τους στην οργάνωση παραγωγής τους και κυρίως τους Πάτμιους εθελοντές που σίγουρα θα φτιάξουν στο μέλλον ένα πολύ ωραίο φεστιβάλ.
Ευχαριστούμε τον Δήμο Πάτμου που μας εμπιστεύτηκε και το Πνευματικό Κέντρο Δήμου Πάτμου που θα είναι συνοδοιπόρος στο ταξίδι που τώρα αρχίζει. Θα συνεχιστεί ακόμα κι αν είμαστε υποχρεωμένοι να το κάνουμε με μικρά και προσεκτικά βήματα λόγω των δυσκολιών. Ο ιός κάποια στιγμή θα αποδυναμωθεί και τα βήματα θα γίνουν πιο μεγάλα.
